Birkenhead Resident Celebrates 90th Birthday with a trip to Tranmere Rovers

Rita Read, resident at Daleside Nursing Home in Birkenhead, which is part of the We Care Group has recently celebrated her 90th birthday with a visit to Tranmere Rovers Football Club.
Rita, who was born in Birkenhead on 26th June 1923, married her husband Mal at St Stephens Church in Prenton and they had 50 wonderful years before he sadly passed away 13 years ago. Although they had no children of their own Rita has always regarded her nephews Gary, Paul and Phil as her children who now have children and grandchildren of their own who she sees as her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Rita has been a lifelong Tranmere Rovers fan and always attended the games from early childhood and this passion continued when she married Mal, she has now passed this passion to all her boys.
When team at Daleside heard about her love of Tranmere Rovers they couldn’t think of any better way to help her celebrate her special day than a visit to the club. They secretly got in touch with the club to arrange a visit and the special day was arranged.
On the morning of her birthday Rita started the day opening some of her presents unaware of the wonderful surprise awaiting her! She was taken on a special trip out and was delighted to discover she was visiting Tranmere Rovers. She was given a special tour of the stadium, visiting the memorabilia room with all the trophies and photographs from old players to the latest team as well as having the opportunity to go on the pitch. She had a wonderful and memorable day.
