New Pub Club launched by Ormskirk Care Home

Courtfield Lodge Care Home in Ormskirk, which is part of the We Care Group, is delighted to
launch a new initiative for the home, called ‘pub club’, which has been set up in partnership
with two local pubs.

The home, which has worked with the teams at The Old Duke in Southport and The Hayfield in
Ormskirk, will enable residents to enjoy a trip out to one of the pubs, socialising in a different
environment, with reminiscence, entertainment and talks from local groups as well as tea and
coffee and light refreshments

The home has worked with the teams at both the pubs to ensure a ‘dementia friendly’
environment for residents as part of the ‘pub club’ visit. In addition, some of the staff in both
pubs will receive further training, including ‘Singing for the Brain’ to help enhance the visits

Many residents living in care homes want to remain part of their local community, taking part
in local events and activities. However, this can be difficult for some residents, particularly
those living with dementia. The ‘pub club’ will provide a great opportunity to break down some
of the barriers and provide a safe space for people living with dementia and as it develops will
be extended so we can welcome people in the community who are living with dementia.

Gavin Trerise, Manager at Courtfield Lodge said,” We are pleased to be working with the Old
Duke and the Hayfield for our ‘Pub Club’ initiative which we are hoping will expand and develop
over the coming weeks.” He continued “We have already received interest from another local
care home as well as a local support group who want to be part of the initiative.” He continued
“We are also keen to encourage people living with dementia in the local community to attend
with their loved ones.”
