Chef at Eccles Care Home wins at the Great British Care Awards 2023
A huge congratulations goes to Sylvia Keir, Head Chef at Barton Brook Care Home, Trafford Road, Eccles which is part of the We Care Group, who was crowned the winner of The Care Home Chef Award Category at the North West Region of the Great British Care Awards 2023.
The awards ceremony took place at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester on Saturday 11th November 2023 to recognise excellence across the sector and pay tribute to people who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their field.
Sylvia was recognised by the judges as a caring, dedicated, passionate and talented chef who understands the importance of mealtimes for residents’ wellbeing as well as her ability to provide healthy well-balanced, enticing meals to stimulate the most discerning appetites.
As a Chef, Sylvia is conscious that some residents may not always feel like eating what is on the menu, especially if they are feeling a bit under the weather, so, she goes that extra mile to find out if there is anything she can make to tempt them to ensure no one goes without a hot meal
Commenting on her win, Sylvia said: “I was delighted when they announced my name as the winner of this award, although surprised, as there was a lot of competition.” She continued “I love my job and speaking with residents and their families, to find out what they like eating, so I can adapt the menu as necessary. To be recognised at the Great British Care Awards is just amazing, I’m so proud. We had a wonderful evening at the ceremony celebrating all the achievements across the care sector.”
Barbara Cameron, Care Home Manager at Barton Brook Care home, added: “This award is very well-deserved. We are lucky to have Sylvia as our Chef.” She continued “I know how important mealtimes are for many residents so it’s great to have such a talented and amazing Chef in the home. Congratulations Sylvia.”

The Great British Care Awards National Finals 2023, will take place in March 2024, at the ICC in Birmingham
