A huge congratulations goes to Sarah Pattrick, Activity Coordinator at Saltshouse
Haven Care Home in Hull, which is part of the We Care Group, who was crowned
the winner of The Care Home Activity Coordinator Award Category at the York
and Humberside Region of the Great British Care Awards 2023.
The awards ceremony took place at The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds on
Thursday 2nd November 2023 to recognise excellence across the sector and pay
tribute to people who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their
field.
Sarah was recognised by the judges for her dedication and commitment in
providing a varied programme of stimulating and meaningful activities for the
benefit of the Residents at the care home. She plans an array of different
activities on a daily basis such as chair-based exercise classes, crafts and quizzes
as well as arranging singers to visit the home which are always popular, as well
as trips out within the local community.
Thanks to Sarah the home has its own caravan on site which provides a great
opportunity for residents to get outside and enjoy morning coffee or afternoon
tea while reminiscing about family camping holidays. The residents enjoy taking
responsibility for keeping the caravan clean and tidy, giving them a sense of
purpose and feeling of self-worth.
Commenting on her win, Sarah said: “I was shocked when they announced my
name but am thrilled to win this award. We had a wonderful evening at the
ceremony celebrating all the achievements across the care sector.” She
continued “I love working with the residents and finding different activities and
events for them to join in with, helping them continue to maintain their hobbies
and interests or finding new ones, for this to be recognised by the Great British
Care Awards is just amazing. Thank you so much!”
Donna Lyons, Care Home Manager at Saltshouse Haven, added: “This award is
very well-deserved. We are lucky to have Sarah as our Activity Coordinator and I
know that many Residents look forward to her weekly plan of activities. This is
truly wonderful for our home. Well done, Sarah!”

dedication in supporting residents to live life to the full.” He continued “ We wish
you luck at the Finals in March 2024.”
The Great British Care Awards National Finals 2023, will take place in March
2024, at the ICC in Birmingham.
