Grimsby Care Home Celebrates Care Home Open Week

Davey Taverner - 31 July 2023

Brooklands Care Home was Booming with Guests

Brooklands Care Home, in Grimsby, which is part of the We Care Group has been
celebrating Care Home Open Week, 26 th June – 2 nd July. Care homes are fantastic
community hubs, with outstanding facilities, filled with the incredible people that live
and work within them.
Care Home Open Week provides care homes with the opportunity to show what they
have to offer, their fantastic facilities, activities and services, reminding their
neighbours that they are there if they need support. It also provides the perfect
opportunity to show fantastic career opportunities that are available in the sector,
which encourages the community to support and build connections with their local
service, considering how they can support those living and working in care
communities throughout the year.
As part of the day local organisations were invited to set up stalls which included
craft creations, jewellery and a crochet stall. There were lots of fun things to do
including a tombola stall and hook a duck.
Cliftons Dance Academy attended the event and there was lots of fantastic dancing.
This was wonderful for our residents, one resident had once danced with Kevin
Clifton himself. She was able to remember so many happy memories while watching
them, and began telling some amazing stories of her time as a dancer.
During the day there was an opportunity to have a look round the home and see
what the home could offer for those looking for a care home for themselves or a
loved one and see what daily life is like for residents and the range of activities and
events that take place to ensure residents live fulfilled lives.
To round the day of there was wonderful BBQ and the community came together as
one big family. The home made a staggering £254.31 which will go into our residents
fund meaning they can provide even more events and activities for residents.
Sunday 2nd July was also National Thank You Day and residents joined Tony Christie
to sing “Thank You for being a Friend” which was a fitting way to end a wonderful
week.
June a resident at Brooklands Care Home said “Quote: It is wonderful to see the young
dancers they did such a wonderful job and made everyone smile, it takes me back to my
youth when I loved dancing and took part in many dance performances” She continued “I
remember dancing with Kevin Clifton as well as Keith and Judy Clifton and they where

brilliant teachers we would have such a great time dancing in the hall. Since seeing the
dancers I have felt my feet tapping away and wonder if I could still do a few steps. It really
was a great time in my life and I am so grateful for the opportunity. It would be lovely to see
them all again.”

Catherine Brooks, Manager at Brookland Care Home said “All the team at
Brooklands have had a wonderful week celebrating Care Home Open Week. It was
wonderful that our neighbours Springfield Lodge Montessori Day Nursery and Pre-
School and Springfield Primary School could visit us and we’ve certainly created
some wonderful lasting links in the local community.”

Bernie Suresparan, We Care Group, Chief Executive said “It is wonderful to see Brooklands
Care Home getting involved in Care Home Open Week and it’s been a great opportunity for
them to build connections with their local communities which will certainly be great for the
residents in the home.”
