Grimsby care home resident celebrates 101st birthday
Lynn Billingham - 11 July 2022
Betty Humberston, resident at Brooklands Care Home, part of the We Care Group, recently celebrated an impressive 101st birthday with a special celebration in the home.
Betty, who was born in Grimsby in July 2021, around two years after the end of the First World War, is a quiet and dignified lady. She worked in the ammunition factory during World War II.
After World War II Betty went to work in her uncle’s clothes shop, she still keeps in touch with cousins and their family members. As an only child, she never married having cared for her parents in their old age.
Betty still loves clothes and like to keep herself well dressed. She also loves music from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and is always first up to have a dance, especially when her favourites, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, are being played.
All her friends at Brooklands Care Home helped her celebrate her special day with a lovely birthday buffet, hand-made birthday card and beautiful birthday cake.
Catherine Brooks, Care Home Manager at Brooklands Care Home said “Celebrating such an amazing milestone in someone’s life is always wonderful. Everyone had a lovely afternoon celebrating with Betty, who couldn’t believe that she was 101. There was lots of reminiscing about birthdays long since gone, which are always so wonderful.”
