Ormskirk Residents reminisce at Hillside Golf Club

Davey Taverner - 27 November 2023

The team at Courtfield Lodge in Ormskirk, which is part of the We Care Group, know how important it is for residents to remain part of their local communities and this often helps them reminisce about their families and their lives, which are always fascinating to hear about.

Earlier this year the home set up a successful ‘Pub Club’ which sees residents enjoying a weekly visit to the local pubs, The Hayfield in Ormskirk for ‘Knit and Natter’ Tuesday mornings and The Old Duke in Southport on Tuesday afternoons for drinks and games. During one of the visits to the Old Duke in Southport two of the residents Paddy and Bert discovered that they had both retired from Merseyside Police after a long service. They both knew lots of the same people who had worked in the Police and even remembered some of the old cases they had worked on.

Paddy and Bert have become great friends in the home and can often be found sitting chatting together in the lounge chatting and reminiscing about their days in the Police.

Gavin Trerise, Manager at Courtfield Lodge who is friends with Ray, a retired Detective Chief Superintendent with Merseyside Police and passed on (with permission) the story of Paddy and Bert to find out if they knew each other. Ray was delighted to hear about Paddy and Bert and remembered them fondly. Ray invited the pair to join him at the Club for Afternoon Tea with the Captain of the Club, Gerry who is also retired from Merseyside Police.

Paddy and Bert had a wonderful afternoon out at the Club, sharing lots of wonderful memories of their time in the Police Force. Lots of the members were delighted to meet with them and indeed many recognised them from the local community. The day was made even more special when, to their delight, they were invited to sit on the Captains Table.

Gavin Trerise, Manager at Courtfield Lodge said “When we started the ‘Pub Club’ earlier this year little did we realise what a success it would be and the friendships it would lead to.” He continued “We’d like to thank Ray and all the staff at Hillside Golf Club for making Paddy and Bert so welcome and giving them a great afternoon to remember.”

Bernie Suresparan, Chief Executive Officer at We Care Group said “At We Care Group we have always encouraged and supported our homes to develop links in their local communities.” He continued “It is great to see how well the ‘pub club’ initiative at Courtfield Lodge is doing and leading to greater opportunities in the local area such as the partnership with Hillside Golf Club.”

The We Care Group, which has been operating since 2007, is building a good reputation in the local areas it serves, to improve standards for residents and their families as well as for the staff working in the home, as part of its drive to be care home provider of choice in the communities it serves.
