Carrie Williams, resident at Riversdale Care Home, part of the We Care Group, has celebrated being a centurion with a special celebration in the home.
Carrie was born in County Durham on 9th March 1923 where she attended the local village school. She was a qualified Psychiatric Nurse and met her husband Danny in Cherry Knowles Hospital in Country Durham where he was recovering having been injured in World War II. They fell in love and married in 1945.
Following their marriage they moved to Birkenhead, which is Danny was from. They were married for over 50 years before sadly Danny passed away. They had 2 children Kathleen and Bernard, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. All the family still live in West Kirby.
As a qualified nurse Carrie’s kind, caring and helping nature remains instilled in her to this day as she is always looking out for the other residents in the home, who are all a lot younger than her, to make sure they are ok!
After Carrie retired she took great delight in helping to look after her grandchildren as well as volunteering for her local church, St Michaels and All the Angels.
Carrie adored the late Queen and over the years received several letters from her which are her pride and joy. She was delighted to receive a 100th Birthday Card from King Charles
Carrie was joined by all her family, friends, residents and all the team at Riversdale who all sang “Happy Birthday” to get the celebrations underway on her special day with a lovely birthday buffet and a singer to help to entertainment everyone.
Amber, Care Home Manager at Riversdale Care Home said “Celebrating such an amazing milestone in someone’s life is always wonderful. Everyone has had a lovely afternoon celebrating with Carrie, who had a wonderful time celebrating her special birthday. There was lots of reminiscing about Carrie’s life over the last 100 years, which is always so wonderful to hear.”
Carrie’s daughter Kathy Johnson said “It is wonderful that mum is able to celebrate such a milestone birthday, which I believe is thanks to Amber, the Manager, and all the team at Riversdale who have made such an impact on mum’s life in such a short space of time which all the family really appreciate. Mum and all the family and friends have had a wonderful afternoon and we couldn’t have asked for a better 100th birthday celebration.”
Bernie Suresparan, Executive Chairman, We Care Group said “It sounds like Carrie and everyone at Riversdale Care Home had a wonderful time celebrating Carrie’s 100th Birthday. It is a privilege and an honour for We Care Group to care for elderly people and hear about the wonderful lives they have lived.
