We Care Group Residents age like fine wine and to aid, we work hard on our activities and wellbeing program. We aim to have a great mix of activities to support their body and mind to be as sharp as they can be.
This is why we have recently partnered with DanceSing an online platform that offers on-demand tailored music and movement content for elderly Residents. The content has been developed through research with the University of Stirling and the NHS.
A selection of WCG homes started the Dance and Sing program tailored to elderly Residents on August 1st, 2022. The first homes to take part in the program are The Anchorage, Barnston Court, Daleside, Saltshouse Haven, Old Gates, Mahogany and Swansea Terrace. If successful and well-received by the residents, the program will be extended to all our homes.
What are the benefits of music, dancing and singing?
- Increase in self-confidence, independence
- Movement and tailored workouts can reduce falls
- Dancing can improve mobility, coordination and strength of the body
- Music, in general, can reduce depression boosting the Resident mood
- Music is a great way to unlock memories, improve speech and reduce anxiety
If the Residents are not in the mood for dancing, they can always sit, relax and enjoy the curated music channel that DanceSing offers. The music playlists are a mixture of 4 decades the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s with a great variety of music genres for all the different tastes of the Residents and Carers.
We are expecting the homes to upload lots of great videos and pictures of the music and dancing sessions, if you want to follow their journey, please check our homes’ Facebook Channels.
